International Student University Enrolment Numbers
Australian universities cater to not only domestic students, but also a very large number of international students. The universities with the highest international student numbers are RMIT University (RMIT) with over 26,000 international students, Monash University with more than 22,000 international students, and Curtin University with approximately 15,000 international students. In terms of the highest percentages of international students, Federation University has approximately 48%, RMIT has around 46%, and Murdoch University has about 40%.
Notably, roughly half of RMIT’s student population at the undergraduate level is composed of international students. Murdoch follows closely with approximately 47%. At the postgraduate level, the percentages are very high. In CQ University, around 89% of those enrolled in postgraduate programs are international students. Charles Sturt University follows with about 83%.
The figures in Table 1 show the number of overseas students in Australian universities relative to total students including distance education students. Although this is interesting to understand the overall percentage breakdown, it is important to also check Table 2 which excludes distance education students and in this way establishes the actual on-campus percentage breakdown of overseas students.
